This easy sausage and broccoli skillet recipe is super nourishing and easy to make - On the table in 25 minutes.

Ingredients you need for the Garlic Butter Sausages and Broccoli Skillet

1 lb (450g)sausage (Bratwurst or Italian style)1 lb (450g) broccoli, cut into florets3 tablespoons butter, oroildivided,5 garlic cloves, minced1 teaspoon Italian seasoningJuice of 1/2 lemon + lemon slices, for garnishSalt and fresh cracked pepper1/4 cup (60ml) vegetable or beef stock1 tablespoon hot sauce, optional (we used Sriracha)Crushed red chili pepper flakes, optional1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

Directions

1.To make the garlic butter sausage and broccoli: Quickly blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 3 minutes until crisp-tender. Drain and transfer to an ice bath to stop the cooking. Drain and set aside.

2. In the meantime, lay the sausages in a skillet with 1/2 cup water. Cook half covered for 10 minutes on medium heat, turning regularly. When the water has evaporated, add 2 tablespoons butter, half the minced garlic, and red chili pepper flakes and continue cooking for a couple of minutes, until sausages have browned in the garlic butter sauce. Transfer sausages to a plate and set aside.

3.In the same skillet, lower the heat and melt the remaining tablespoon butter. Add chopped parsley, thyme, remaining garlic, Italian seasoning, red crushed chili pepper flakes, and blanched broccoli florets and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring regularly, until cooked to your liking. Deglaze with lemon juice, vegetable or beef stock, hot sauce, and reduce the sauce for a couple of minutes.

4.Add thegarlic butter sausages back to the pan with the broccoli and reheat quickly. Spoon the sauce over the sausage and broccoli Adjust seasoning with pepperand serve the garlic butter sausages and broccoli skillet immediately, garnished with more crushed chili pepper, fresh herbs, and a slice of lemon if you like. You can keep broccoli in the plastic bag it came in but leave it open so air can circulate. If you’ve purchased pre-cut broccoli or want to cut the broccoli ahead of time, pat the broccoli dry after rinsing and store in a loose container or bag and eat it within one to two days. Don’ wait for too long because it will start to smell bad in your refrigerator after a while.When bought very fresh and left untouched, broccoli will keep up to 10 days, though.

How to prepare broccoli for cooking

When you’re ready to eat the broccoli or cook it, first rinse it off, then cut the florets from the stem or stalk. You can keep the stem and trim off the exterior and geta crunchy, delicious, tender snack. If you’re serving the broccoli raw as a snack or for dipping, you can make it crisper by soaking it in ice-cold water for about 10 minutes.
